Allison and Walker’s Lynn Britt Cabin wedding in Snowmass Village was a blast to shoot. Walker works for Microsoft and Allison is working on a PhD in Seattle so it was a destination wedding for everyone involved. Walker has been to Aspen a ton to ski and convinced Allison that it would make the perfect fall wedding location.

I started with the ladies and my good friend Dustin held down the fort with the guys. It was important for Allison to incorporate some of her heritage and family traditions in the wedding so I got to experience my first Chinese tea ceremony. The bride and groom each take turns serving tea to many of their family members in exchange for words of wisdom. It was neat to see their entire families join together to watch and listen all in the confines of a hotel room.

Before too long we hopped in the car and headed up the mountain for the ceremony. Lynn Britt Cabin is on Snowmass mountain next to a ski slope and surrounded by aspen trees. It’s a far cry from many of the modern mid-mountain structures that you often see today. The cabin is quaint and has character unique to itself. Allison changed from her Chinese dress into the more traditional white dress in the loft of the cabin where she could spy on all the happenings outside.

I knew that I wanted to make a different picture of her walking out of the cabin alone with everyone looking in her direction so I mounted a remote camera underneath the porch next to the stairs. This allowed me to be at two places at once and still capture her walking down the aisle with her parents moments later.

Midway through the ceremony the clouds separated for a few minutes and the the sunlight poured over their ceremony. I can confidently say that it was the most beautiful ceremony site that I’ve photographed. The dark clouds and sunlit peaks made for an amazing contrast that will be hard to top.

After a few family photos in the rain (their families are troopers) we walked into the aspens to capture the fall color that the Colorado high country is known for. The trees were at peak color which made for the perfect backdrop for a few quick portraits.

The reception was a casual affair without many of the traditional wedding activities but they did enjoy some great scotch by the fire before tearing up the dance floor.

Aspen is definitely one of my favorite places in the state and I can’t wait to get back there for for another wedding soon.
