This was a first.
Soccer in the snow with the state championship on the line; what more could you ask for?
A goal, perhaps.
The only disappointing thing with this game was that no one scored. After 30 minutes of extra time, they went to penalty kicks and Battle Mountain prevailed in the end.
To add insult to injury, I was there covering Palmer Ridge for The Gazette so none of the jubilation ever made the paper. Oh, and they held the penalty kicks on the opposite end of where my elevated remote (first photo above) was. The championship clinching celebration would have looked epic from that angle. Still, it is definitely one of the most enjoyable assignments that I’ve had the pleasure to photograph.
