I recently traveled to Chicago to work alongside Travis at Brad and Christina’s Bridgeport Art Center wedding. Christina got ready at the Westin Chicago River Walk so Brad and myself waited outside for her to arrive for their first look. It was great to see them both so excited and emotional when they saw each other for the first time.
The notoriously chilly Chicago weather didn’t stop us from making some portraits along the river walk. Despite the overcast light being really flat, we managed to find some color to make things stand out. Bright colors and graphic lines often drive my photographic vision so being able to discover so many locations that accentuated my style was fantastic.
Their ceremony at the Bridgeport Art Center took place in the sculpture garden. We’ve had the chance to shoot in the skyline loft there but the outdoor garden was something we hadn’t experienced before. I know everyone was glad to see the propane heaters because it was a brisk night and only part of the garden was enclosed.
After a few funny stories, a reading from Winnie the Pooh and their first kiss as husband and wife they took things indoors for the rest of the reception. Their friends and families told some hilarious speeches and Christina’s sister definitely earned highlight honors when she pulled out one of Christina’s old dolls that looked just like Brad. The dance party was flowing all night long thanks to Rachel from Toast and Jam.
Bridgeport is definitely one of my favorite wedding venues in Chicago and I know that couples love it too so I’m sure it won’t be long before we’re back there again.
